Synodontis nyassae can be found in entire Lake Malawi. During most time of the year they mainly are living there in the holes between the rocks. However, it seems that in autumn a lot of these species can be found above sandy and muddy bottoms with a low waterlevel. There are two varieties of this species, one with big spots on the body and one with smaller spots. They can reach a total lenght of about 20 cm. You can best keep these animals in a tank which is not too small, because of the size they reach, and with more of them together. (This is because they live in groups so then you will see them more in your aquarium.) These animals are living at night, in daytime they hide between the rocks. In general they are very tolerant against other inhabitants. Probably they are feeding themselves with insects, cancroids and other invertebrates. |
